Technical Description: German Model 1898 Mauser bolt action magazine rifle, serial number 2808d, caliber 7.92 x 57mm Mauser. Standard military configuration rifle. Standard 29.1-inch length barrel, with inverted V front sight and Lange rear sight. The left side of the barrel forward of the receiver is marked 2808/d, the receiver ring left side is marked 2808/d. The left receiver wall is marked in Gothic Script GEW. 98.. The top of the receiver ring is marked CROWN / AMBERG / 1915. The bolt shows heavy pitting, the bolt handle ball is marked 5390, other bolt parts have various twodigit numbers. The walnut stock is marked with various small proof and view marks. The Number _ _ 32 is marked below the lower sling swivel base. The unit marking disc on the right side of the butt stock is marked 270. R. I. R. 11. 275.. The trigger plate is marked 2808. The original cleaning rod is present. The rifle bore is excellent. The lower sling swivel is missing. The bayonet with this rifle is the rare early type for the Model 1898. The 20 ½-inch narrow blade has the swell towards the point. The right side of the blade is marked "W. K. & C. / SOLINGEN. The left side of the guard is marked 178. R. 10.8., the back of the blade is marked CROWN / 02 / CROWN. The grips are walnut. The model bayonet was made without a muzzle ring. Original black leather scabbard with steel tip and throat. The throat is marked 102.R. 1. 125.. The blade will not fully seat in the scabbard. Old small break in the stitching. Historical Significance: Early WWI manufacture, probably factory reworked after WWI.

Any items left after the specified load out dates will be considered forfeited unless alternate pickup or shipping arrangements are made. It will be the buyer's responsibility to dismantle & disconnect any and all equipment. Please bring your own tools, labor, packing materials & moving equipment.
