This rifle is an arsenal conversion of a standard .303 caliber service rifle to a .22 caliber single shot use for marksmanship training. The sling is tan  webbing marked M.E.Co. 1940 BROAD ARROW. The bayonet is a WWII Model Mk 1*, with a 12-inch blade without a fuller. The blade back has a 2-inch false edge. Marked on the base of the blade is CROWN / G.R. I. / M. 1* / 11 42 / RFI, the pommel is numbered 452. The handle has walnut grips. The rifle and stock is in excellent condition. Historical Significance: Rifle, which has been converted to .22 caliber or built new in .22 caliber, has been used by many nations to train soldiers in marksmanship. The rifles have the same general configuration as the standard service rifle. This No 1, Mark III rifle was almost certainly converted at a government arsenal and was designated after conversion as a rifle, No 2, mark IV. Usually the rifles to be converted were obsolete or
worn out service rifles. After conversion the butt socket was remarked with the caliber .22 and IV*, and the rifle was completely refinished. This model was adopted in 1921. The bayonet with the rifle is not correct, it is a WWII type as is the web sling.
