Technical Description: Italian Model 1871 / 87 / 15 Vetterli-Vitali bolt action magazine rifle, serial number U4524, caliber 6.5 mm. The blackened round barrel is 34 inches in length, fastened by two blackened oval barrel bands with spring retainers. The front sight is a barleycorn type; the rear sight is a leaf type with range graduations on the sight base from 600 to 2000 meters. The right side of the barrel breech is marked U4524, the top is marked K and CROWN / SHIELD in an oval. The left side of the barrel breech is marked TORRE / ANNUNZIATA, FC in an oval and 1873. The bolt is finished bright. The top of the receiver is marked 12. The stock furniture is blackened iron. The rifle bore is excellent, original cleaning rod. The walnut stock is light colored and is straight grained, marked on the right butt ______OLOTTI, U / 4524, and __ __57. The left butt is marked with a large circle; the letters inside the circle are no longer legible. Overall excellent condition. The bayonet with the rifle has a 9 ¼-inch blade, knife style, with a single wide fuller. Grips are composition; the right side of the crossguard is marked EB7144. The black leather sheath has a brass tip and throat and is unmarked. Historical Significance: Standard service rifle of Italy from 1871 to 1891. Originally manufactured in 1873 as a 10.45 mm single shot rifle, the Model 1871. After 1887 the rifle was modified by an arsenal to use the Vitali single column box magazine. After Italy entered WWI in 1915 this rifle was again modified and refitted with a Mannlicher magazine system and 6.5 mm barrel to use the 6.5 mm Mannlicher Carcano cartridge adopted in 1891. Rifles like this were extensively used during the First World War and to some extent used again in WWII.

It will be the buyer's responsibility to dismantle & disconnect any and all equipment. Please bring your own tools, labor, packing materials & moving equipment.
